The River Tweed Commission operates or has management which influences, the following inshore marine protected areas between Fast Castle Head and the River Tyne:
- Tweed Estuary SAC
- Berwickshire and North Northumberland Coast SAC
- Northumberland Marine SPA
- Northumbria Coast SPA
Responsibilites
Management Actions
The River Tweed Commission has the following management measures in place to ensure its functions and regulatory powers are carried out in a manner that achieves the conservation objectives for the inshore marine protected areas in which it operates:
- RTC work collaboratively and share information with other fisheries regulators (EA and NIFCA) on the coast
- Work to ensure that management regimes in the Tweed and Eye Fisheries District have regard to the designated features of marine protected areas
- Regulation of net fisheries at a sustainable level
- Promoting biosecurity and raising awareness of the impacts of non-native species within the Tweed Catchment
