Beadnell
The Long Nanny tern colony on Beadnell Bay is one of the most important sites for breeding shorebirds in the UK. Managed by the National Trust, the site is home to the UK’s largest onshore breeding colony of Arctic Tern and a national sigificant population of breeding Little Tern, who lay their eggs on the sand spit by the edge of the Long Nanny Burn.
The sand spit on which Little Tern nest regularly changes its shape and height and the course of the Long Nanny Burn has also altered in recent years creating a highly dynamic shore. Submitting your photo photographs from the Beadnell Bay CoastSnap post will help us to monitor these changes and also capture a record of dune erosion at the back of the beach.
