Marine Protected Areas

The RSPB operates, or has management which influence, on the following inshore marine protected areas between Fast Castle Head and the River Tyne:

• Berwick to St Mary’s MCZ
• Coquet Island SPA
• Northumberland Marine SPA
• Coquet to St Mary’s MCZ

Responsibilites

Management Actions

The RSPB has the following management measures in place to contribute towards the conservation objectives for the inshore marine protected areas in which it operates:

1. The RSPB  leads on the Roseate Tern LIFE project which aims to improve the conservation prospects of the roseate tern in the UK and Ireland
2. Management of the Coquet Island Bird Sanctuary
3. The RSPB contributes locally to planning responses and other casework affecting marine protected areas
