Berwickshire Marine Reserve

The Berwickshire Marine Reserve, based in Eyemouth,  run a programme of events and volunteer opportunities which range from Coastal Clean-ups and maintenance, Intertidal Marine Monitoring, Shorewatch, talks from guest speakers, various training opportunities.

Northumberland Coast National Landscape Conservation Team Volunteers

Conservation Team volunteers undertake skilled and varied tasks throughout the Northumberland Coast National Landscape. They carry out ecological surveys and practical conservation, maintain habitats for wildlife, and keep our beaches free of litter.  All volunteers are provided with full training and the equipment and resources they need to care for the landscape.

Beachwatch

Beachwatch is the Marine Conservation Society’s national beach cleaning and litter survey programme where people all around the UK can care for their coastline.

The Big Microplastic Survey

The Big Microplastic survey is  a global citizen science project that anyone can participate in.  It gathers scientific data and information about the microplastics problem from around the world and is aimed at individuals and organisations that have access to the coast, rivers and lakes.

The Great Nurdle Hunt

Nurdles are small plastic pellets about the size of a lentil. Countless billion are used each year to make nearly all our plastic products but many end up washing up on our shores. The Great Nurdle Hunt collects data on the presence and extent of nurdles.

Seasearch

Seasearch is a project for volunteer scuba divers who have an interest in what they’re seeing under water, want to learn more and want to help protect the marine environment around the coasts of Britain and Ireland. The main aim is to map out the various types of sea bed found in the near-shore zone around the whole of Britain and Ireland. In addition the project is recording what lives in each area, establishing the richest sites for marine life, the sites where there are problems and the sites which need protection.

The Great Eggcase Hunt

The Great Eggcase Hunt is a citizen science project run by the Shark Trust  which asks the public to find and record the eggcases of sharks and rays
